If any of this feels familiar…

  • Your horse spooks “out of nowhere”
  • You feel tension before anything even happens
  • You try to push through—but it makes things worse
  • You don’t fully trust what might happen next

And underneath all of it:

You’re not completely sure why it’s happening.

That uncertainty is where risk lives.

This isn’t a training problem

It’s a nervous system problem.

When a horse feels unsafe:

  • The brain shifts from thinking → surviving
  • Learning shuts down
  • Reactions take over

And the same thing happens in you.

Tension, anticipation, bracing—
these aren’t just feelings.

They’re part of the system your horse is responding to.

“A horse cannot learn when he/she is afraid.”
— Dr. Andrew McLean

What if you understood what was really happening?

In Fear and Safety for Horse and Rider, you’ll learn:

  • How fear works in both horse and human
  • Why behavior changes under pressure
  • How to recognize the moment before things escalate
  • What actually creates a sense of safety
  • How to respond in ways that reduce—not increase—risk

This isn’t about controlling behavior.

It’s about understanding the system that drives it.
